Preheat the oven to 400°F. Butter a 13 x 9-inch baking pan or other shallow baking dish. In the prepared pan, layer the creamed chicken alternately with: 4 ounces tortilla chips, lightly crushed (4 ounces yields 2 to 3 cups) 2 cups lightly packed grated Cheddar cheese (4 ounces per cup) Top with a final layer of tortilla chips sprinkled with cheese. Bake until the sauce is bubbly and the cheese is golden brown, 25 to 35 minutes.
